Michael J. Mahometa

Senior Research Scientist

Far Harbor, LLC

Learner | Educator | Applied Statistician

Michael J. Mahometa is an Educator, Learner, and a self-proclaimed Applied Statistician. Early in his career (graduate school), he discovered a love of “answering questions.” It didn’t matter if those questions were his own, or others. He turned that passion for both statistics and helping others into a career as a full time Statistical Consultant, for the blossoming Division of Statistics and Scientific Computation a The University of Texas at Austin. Those early days had him wearing many hats, as the Division was small and lean, with a true start-up mentality.

Years later, the Division became the Department of Statistics and Data Science, and Michael took on the role of leading the Statistical Consulting group, overseeing the Professional Education arm of the Department. But still, he finds true fulfillment in the interactions with others, helping them to see their data in a new light, and working to answer new questions.

In his newest role as Senior Research Scientist at Far Harbor, he continues to engage with clients, contributing on projects involving health outcomes, public opinion, and educational achievement.
